CHOOSING THE CORRECT COURSE

 

  • BLS Courses: These course types are intended for healthcare providers and trained first responders.
  • Heartsaver Courses: These course types are intended for the general public (i.e. daycare providers, personal trainers, etc.) and are not intended for healthcare provider level of certification. 
  • Blended Learning (Skills Session) - These courses are a blend of online learning and hands on skills application. They offer the same certifiation as a traditional course.
  • Supplemental eLearning Modules - Modules are online only and are designed to enhance ones knowledge in the selected course.  These supplemental modules are not a certification course.

 

If you do not see the course you are interested in listed below, it does not mean the course(s) are not being offered, rather they have not been prescheduled.  Please contact us for more information or if you have any questions regarding what the appropriate course is for your needs.

THE BLS PROVIDER COURSE IS FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN OBTAINING THEIR BLS PROVIDER CERTIFICATION FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS AND TRAINED FIRST RESPONDERS.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The AHA’s BLS Provider Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. This course teaches basic life support skills for application in both in-facility and prehospital settings, with a focus on high-quality CPR, improvement of chest compression fraction, and high-performing team dynamics. The BLS Provider Course teaches rescue techniques for adults, children, and infants.

 

COURSE LENGTH

The course is 3-4 hours approximately, with a DVD presentation, lecture, practical application, written test, and skills test. (Note: Class time can be extended to ensure all material is covered following the AHA Guidelines.)

  • NONE

 

IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION

  • The student manual is required to be present at the course.  Students who do not bring their manuals to class will be required to purchase new manuals or request to be rescheduled into another class date. See the PAYMENT section below for information about rescheduling.
  • If you purchased the Heartsaver First Aid Online, you will receive an email with the link to access the online course. Please allow one business day if our registration system does not automatically issue the eLearning content.
  • PAYMENT: Prepayment is required and non-refundable, but you can reschedule for another prescheduled group class. Please note the following in regards to rescheduling.
    • Class dates can be rescheduled at no cost if requested by email no later than noon (12 p.m.) the business day before the originally scheduled course. This can be done only once, and the rescheduling fee will apply to any additional rescheduling requests.
    • The rescheduled class date must be within six (6) months of the initially scheduled course. Failure to complete the course within the given time will result in the student forfeiting their registration payment. Full course payment will be required if the student wishes to reschedule.
    • Rescheduling Fee: 50% of the course fee
  • COURSE COMPLETION: Payment for the course does not guarantee certification. Any participant who does not attend the entire course or pass any required skills/written testing will be required to retake the course at full cost.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The AHA’s ACLS Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC and the 2019 Update to the 2018 ASA Ischemic Stroke Guidelines. The ACLS Course teaches the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, high-performance teams, continuous, high-quality CPR, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest care, acute dysrhythmias, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

 

COURSE LENGTH

The course is 6-8 hours approximately, with a DVD presentation, lecture, practical application, written test, and skills test. (Note: Class time can be extended to ensure all material is covered following the AHA Guidelines.)

 

PREREQUISITE:

  • ECG familiarity
  • Current AHA ACLS Provider Certification

The American Heart Association’s ACLS Prep: ECG Course is a self-directed eLearning course designed for students preparing to take an AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course. This course is also ideal for healthcare professionals who require basic rhythm recognition skills related to the ACLS algorithms.

 

2020 AHA ACLS Prep:  Pharmacology eLearning Course - (RECOMMENDED)

The American Heart Association’s ACLS Prep: Pharmacology Course is a self-directed eLearning course designed for students preparing to take an AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course.

THE PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (PALS) UPDATE COURSE IS FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN RENEWING THEIR CURRENT NON-EXPIRED PALS CERTIFICATION.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The participants who complete this training program will be certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics® (AAP®) and American Heart Association® (AHA®) as a PALS Provider. This course is designed for the advanced-level medical provider (nurses, respiratory, physicians, paramedics) to review how to assess, care for, and resuscitate pediatric patients with respiratory, shock, and cardiac emergencies. With this training, you can better understand how to reduce the mortality of pediatric patients. Skills and treatments of potential and actual pediatric victims of cardiopulmonary emergencies. Skills include respiratory management, defibrillation, cardioversion, IO insertion, fluid administration, and team dynamics, emphasizing high-quality CPR. American Heart Association certification eCard provided.

The participants who complete this training program will be certified by the American Heart Association as a CPR/AED Provider. You will learn to perform CPR and use an AED with relief of choking for adults, with optional modules for children and infants. American Heart Association certification eCard provided.

The course includes a DVD presentation, lecture, practical application, and skills test. Below are the approximate times by section:

  • Teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials

COURSE LENGTH: 

  • 5 hours approximately, with a DVD presentation, practical application, written test, and skills test. (Note: Class time can be extended to ensure all material is covered following the AHA Guidelines.)
  • Following the completion of the initial instructor course, instructor candidates must separately schedule the following:
    • Class observation (shadow) to observe a BLS Provider course being taught by a Healthline Faculty Instructor
    • Instructor monitoring to prove competency with presentation, skills, and group leadership skills.

DHS 83 Training Requirement Course covers how to use PPE and how to prevent spread of bloodborne pathogens. In this course, participants will practice handwashing techniques, how to properly remove gloves, and proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques.

FIRE SAFETY

This training course covers a wide range of topics, all designed to provide the information and skills necessary to protect your residents and yourself in the event of a fire. Main learning points include understanding the nature of fire, recognizing fire hazards, learning about early warning systems, understanding the use of a fire extinguisher, focusing on the evacuation needs of residents, following the CBRF emergency and disaster plan, and responding well in an emergency.

FIRST AID & CHOKING

After taking the CBRF First Aid and Choking course, you will know your role as an assisted living employee in an emergency. You will be able to provide basic first aid in emergencies until help arrives. You will understand how to and be able to alleviate choking. You will be able to identify different types of emergencies and what is the correct way to respond. Lastly, you will learn basic prevention methods to avoid emergency situations.

DHS 83 Course Requirement for Administering Medication. The course will cover residents' rights, facility policies, procedures, delegated procedures, medication management, medical terms and abbreviations, medication packaging, labeling, and storage.

It is designed for students who need a certification that satisfies OSHA workplace or other regulatory requirements. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the Instructor-led skills session. Upon successful completion a valid 2 year digital certificate for Adult CPR/AED is issued.

  • Skills Session: Approximately 2 Hours

RED CROSS BABYSITTER'S TRAINING CERTIFICATION COURSE

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The primary purpose of the Red Cross Babysitter's Training course is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. The training will help participants

  • develop leadership skills.
  • learn how to develop a babysitter business.
  • keep themselves and others safe and help children behave.
  • learn about basic childcare and basic first aid.

This training is designed for youths ages 11-15, but youths younger than 11 may attend if their parent/guardian feels that the course is appropriate for their child.

 

COURSE LENGTH

The course is approximately 6.5-7 hours, which includes the minimum time needed for practicing skills, conducting class activities, viewing video segments, and 30 minutes of break time.
